Looking for a wedding photographer, but don't know where to begin? Wedding photography is not cheap these days and will take a pretty hefty portion of your budget. Here are a few questions that you may want to ponder over before you make that big decision.
Does your personality mesh well with your photographer's?
Your wedding day is one of the biggest days of your life. You want to make sure you surround yourself with people that you enjoy being around. You will be sharing very intimate moments with the photographer, so make sure you feel comfortable being around them. If you hire a photographer to shoot the details and you getting ready, do you feel comfortable dressing in front of him/her?
How is the quality of their work?
Look for sharp images with good lighting-images shouldn't be too dark or have harsh shadows from flashes. Look for a trained eye that knows how to be creative while also shooting flattering images. Look at the skin tones on their images and for overprocessing. There are so many different photoshop actions floating around, but it's important to find a photographer for your wedding that can create timeless portraiture. Do you really want crazy coloring and strong vignetting on your wedding pictures 20 years from now?
Do they use an assistant and backup equipment?
What happens if your photographer's equipment fails on the day of your wedding? That's a very important question to ask every photographer that you meet with. Every photographer should use multiple lenses, strobes and cameras. Having a second shooter on your wedding day is also a very good idea.
Think about YOUR style...
Do you like more traditional portraits or creative/artistic portraits? If you hire a traditional style photographer and expect them to shoot artistic photos, you may be disappointed. Make sure you LOVE their work.
It's important to meet with your photographer in person before the wedding, especially if you don't do an engagement or bridal session. Ask lots of questions and take lots of notes. It may sound crazy, but weddings tend to revolve around pictures, so meeting with the photographer will allow you to make a schedule to guide you throughout the day. Schedules ensure the photographer enough time to shoot the portraits that you expect on your wedding day!
If you are looking for a wedding photographer, feel free to contact us for a meeting. We are happy to answer any questions and love to meet with brides in person.
